Specialist Adam Davis, of Jerome, Idaho was less than a few weeks shy of his 20th birthday when the Army deployed him and others from the 173rd Airborne Brigade stationed in Vicenza, Italy, to Afghanistan.

Adam dropped out of Twin Falls High School, obtained his GED at the College of Southern Idaho and enlisted in the Army. He was following in the footsteps of numerous family members, including his 85-year-old grandfather, Albert Davis, who died this winter from cancer. Albert was a sailor stationed in San Diego in World War II. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the Navy sent Albert almost immediately to clean up the aftermath.

Adam’s older brother, TJ, is serving in the Army in Texas. He and TJ were very close to their grandpa.

Adam enjoyed reading most anything but enjoyed science fiction and fantasy; he loved to listen to music, go on hikes with his dad and brother, as well as spending time with his horse and skateboarding. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. His dream was to finish with the military and go to college to become an English professor.

Adam is the youngest of three siblings, including TJ and their older sister, Stephanie. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Albert F. Davis and James Harold Shinn, as well as his grandmother, Carmen Davis.

Adam is the first military death from the Magic Valley in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Six local servicemen have died serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. Davis is the 27th fatality from Idaho. He was 19.

Adam’s portrait is also located on Poster 3
