PFC Adam Robert Johnson was killed October 31, 2005 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his Humvee during patrol operations in Mahmudiyah, Iraq. “A.J.” Johnson, 22, of Clayton, Ohio, left for Iraq in late September. He had been in Iraq for about five weeks.

At Northmont, A.J. earned Goalie of the Year and overall Player of the Year awards for the Greater Miami Valley Conference with the Varsity Soccer Team. Following graduation, A.J. volunteered as an assistant coach with the Northmont Soccer Program, and helped countless students become better athletes and people. He was an outgoing person whose attitude, smile and love for others will be deeply missed.

He enlisted in the Army in November 2004 and then told his father he had signed up. “He said it was something he always wanted to do.” Mr. Johnson added that he is proud of his son, who was always smiling and showing a positive attitude.
