02/14/2018, PARKLAND, FL, U.S.A.

Alex Logan Schachter was tragically killed on February 14, 2018 during the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Alex was 14 years old.

Alex was a talented trombone and baritone player in his high school marching band and orchestra, explained Alexander Kaminsky, the school director of bands.

“The improvement I witnessed from him was admirable and inspiring,” stated Mr. Kaminsky. “I felt he really had a bright future on the trombone.”

According to friends and family Alex was a sweetheart of a kid! As a freshman, Alex loved the marching band and played the trombone and baritone as part of the Eagle Regiment band – one of the top marching bands in the state of Florida!

He is survived by his heartbroken parents, three siblings, grandparents and countless cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

A scholarship is being created to help other students experience the joys of music as well as fund increased security at schools. Please help keep Alex’s spirit alive.

Shortly before his death, Alex wrote a poem.

Life Is Like A Roller Coaster A Free Verse Poem By Alex Schachter Life is like a roller coaster It has some ups and downs Sometimes you can take it slow Or very fast It may be hard to breathe at times But you just have to push yourself And keep going Your bar is your safety It’s like your family and friends You hold on tight and don’t let go But sometimes you might throw your hands up Because your friends and family will always be with you Just like that bar keeping you safe at all times It may be too much for you at times The twists, The turns, The upside downs, But you get back up And keep chugging along Eventually it all comes to a stop You won’t know when Or how But you will know that it will be time to get off And start anew. Life is like a roller coaster.
