When Private First Class Jason Ryan Watson came home, he wanted to go fishing with his father in his new boat. This brave 19-year-old made the ultimate sacrifice with honor and courage and we are forever grateful for that.
A nickname some had for him was “Rambo.” Serving in the Army was something he’s always wanted to do. Jason was proud and heroic, possessing immense dignity. He was also a platoon leader and battalion commander, a young man who accepted the call to lead in JROTC. Naturally in this process, he was a positive example for future soldiers.
In life he touched many with his light, love, and warm smile. He had a way of putting a smile on people’s faces. Peers say he was a fine soldier and always kind, but serious when the time called for it. And in death, his spirit still resonates with those he loved and wanted to spend the rest of his life near. He was very proud of his unit and battalion and they returned the same to him. They were his family too, and created a home away from home for him.
Jason was an infantryman who entered the Army in September 2007 and arrived at Fort Campbell in February 2008. His military awards and decorations include: The National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Sharpshooter Badge; Weapons Qualification, M4, expert. Posthumously, he was also awarded a Purple Heart.
His parents, Cynthia Lott and Bobby Watson, along with his twin brother, Charles, and the rest of the family miss him dearly and honor him in the living of their lives. We do too.
