U.S. Army

Marcus Vinicio Moralles was the son of Guatemalan immigrants. He was born and raised in New Orleans, LA and also lived in San Antonio, Texas where he graduated from Clark High School.

He joined the Army in August 1994 and most recently served with the 3rd Battalion of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, an elite unit nicknamed the Night Stalkers.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion and was of the Catholic Faith.Described as very humble, very proud of his country, he put 160 percent into whatever he did, because he wanted to be the best of the best.

Marcus served two stints in Iraq and three in Afghanistan and had received several military honors. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and other medals.Family members say he loved medicine and planned to obtain medical training in the Army. They tried to talk him into attending medical school as a civilian, but Marcus was determined to serve his country. He was warned by family members of its danger and the fact he could do as much good in civilian life as he could there. But he wouldn’t hear of it. He wanted to be an Army physician.

He is survived by his wife, whom he married in Honduras in November 1993, Diana L. Muralles; daughter, Anna E. Muralles and son, Marcus “Dominic” Muralles ; mother, Rosemarie Dill and her husband, Robert Dill; father, Leonel A. Muralles and his wife, Aura Muralles; sister, Cynthia Swazay and husband, Michael Swazay; step-sister, Rhonda Demings; two nieces and one nephew.
