Michael Maybin, Jr. 37, formerly of Asheville, died Monday, February 20, 2012 while serving his country. Michael was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and was a son of Michael Maybin and the late Charlotte Fant Maybin. Michael was a 1991 graduate of Asheville High School and excelled as a member of the basketball team. He attended Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, Tenn and received additional education from the Community College of the Air Force and Brandman University. Michael entered the U S Air Force and trained as a communications-computer systems operator. His tours of duty included assignments to Cheyenne Mountain AFB, Co, Andersen AFB, Guam, MacDill AFB, Fla, Osan AFB, Korea, Spangdahlem AFB, Germany, FOB Afghanistan and Scott AFB, Ill. Michael earned the Air Force Commendation Medal with four leaf Clusters and was awarded posthumously, the Meritorious Service Medal.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Charlotte Fant Maybin who died June, 2011. Surviving family to cherish his memory are his son, Tylas Maybin and fiancee Diana Alcivar of New Jersey; father, Michael Maybin, Sr.; brother, Marques Maybin (LaDawn) of Louisville, Ky; grandmothers, Ruby Maybin and Thomasine Fant Smith of Asheville; grandfather, Charlie Miller of Irvington, NJ; uncles, Doug Maybin of Clarksville, Tn, Albert Maybin, Rudy(Renee) Maybin, Charles Fant and Gerald Fant of Asheville; aunts, Gwen F. Hill (Leroy) and Cynthia Smith of Charlotte; several cousins with whom he grew up with including Cameron Maybin of San Diego, Ca; other relatives and friends.
