SSG Bellard is described by family and friends as an intelligent and devoted soldier.

SSG Bellard grew up in Crowley, LA but moved to El Paso with his mother and 3 brothers at the age of 13, according to Susan Ohlenforst, his aunt from Rayne, LA. She described Nicholas as so honest and such a positive and humble man. He was a thinker, a man of few words and very intelligent.

SSG Bellard enlisted in the Army in 2002 to support himself and his wife. It was a steady job that helped him put his wife through school. He quickly fell in love with his job. His enlistment allowed him to realize that military service was exactly what he wanted to do in his life. His was a positive example to his brothers and to anyone he encountered.

The news of SSG Bellard’s death was difficult for anyone who knew him added Mrs. Ohlenforst. Nothing can take the pain away except time and prayer. Nicholas frequently visited both of his hometowns, Crowley and El Paso. Some of her fondest memories were of SSG Bellard’s homecoming parties in Crowley. Now he is having his homecoming with the Lord, Mrs. Ohlenforst concluded.

SSG Bellard’s family expressed their thoughts and prayers: Nicholas gave to his country the sacrifice of life, the costs and burden of his service are ongoing with his wife and daughter as well as his family in and out of the Army. The strength Nicholas has shown in life and in his tragic passing is something that his country honors with love and prayers.

God please wrap your arms around Nicholas’ young family and grow them through the pain to learn the closeness of You and the believers surrounding them. Amen
