Nicholas Paul Webb, 28, of Copperas Cove died after being struck by a train. Webb was a Fort Hood specialist who deployed to Iraq from February 2009 to February 2010. He had been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team since June 2008.

Police responded just before 4:30 a.m. Thursday after a conductor on a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train reported that the train ran over a body on the tracks. Officers found Webb’s body lying beneath rail cars between Main and 1st Streets. It’s not clear, however, how or exactly when Webb died. An autopsy was ordered. Specialist Nicholas Paul Webb, 28, whose home of record is listed as Clifton, Texas, entered active duty service in August 2007 as a motor transport operator. He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since June 2008. Webb deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from February 2009 to February 2010.

Webb’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
