SGT Tyler A. Zody age 20, was killed in a training accident on July 24, 2014.
Tyler was born August 21, 1993 in Fleming Island, FL. He graduated from Fleming Island High School in 2011. Even at a young age, Tyler knew he wanted to be in the military. His father said Tyler listened to him talk about his time in the Army, and learned about his grandfather’s service. Tyler wanted to take the same path. “He loved the military and from all indications he was very good at it,” said Mr. Zody.
After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2011. Tyler completed basic training at Fort Benning, GA as an infantryman and was assigned as a grenadier. Tyler was a Senior Sniper. SGT Zody completed one combat tour in Afghanistan with the Rakkasans. His hobbies were anything outdoors which included going to the beach, four-wheeling, fishing and hunting.
To Ty’s family: You raised a beyond remarkable young man. He changed and touched the lives of everyone he ever came in contact with. I am so sorry for your loss, he was the best friend anyone could ever ask for. You broke the mold when you brought his amazing soul into this world.
