Army Corporal William C. Yauch died June 11, 2010 in Jalula, Iraq serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned to 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. He and another soldier succumbed to wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their unit with a vehicle-borne IED. He was 2 months away from coming home.
Twenty-three year old William “Chris” Yauch, 23, of Batesville, Arkansas was born December 24, 1986 in Harrison, Arkansas and was the son of Lucretia Robertson and Kurt Yauch. He graduated from Batesville High School in 2005. He was a member of the North Heights Church of Christ.
Chris enjoyed a good game of paint ball, and riding his motorcycle. He also loved tinkering with his car. He was an outgoing guy who loved life and his country; and he very much loved the U.S. Army. He was doing what he believed in and wanted to be doing. He was a friendly young man who was pleasant to be around. Chris was known for being just an all-around good guy who was very outgoing and loved life. He enlisted in the Army in 2007 and married his wife, Mallory Rhodes, in February 2008.
Chris is survived by his wife; his mother and step-father, of Cave City, Arkansas; father and step-mother, of St. Charles, Missouri; four step-sisters; a Grandmother; Great-Grandmother, aunts, uncles and friends.
