Brandon L Davis

CUMBERLAND, MD, USA U.S. Army PV1, B COMPANY, 1ST ENGINEER BATTALION (1ST ID), FORT RILEY, KS 66442 HABBANIYAH, IRAQ 03/31/2004

Private Davis was assigned to the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. He was killed when his armored personnel carrier ran over a bomb, possibly detonated by remote control.

Brandon was the class cutup who was once suspended from school after attending his 8th grade dance in drag. He had an outgoing, upbeat personality with the gift of making people laugh. The memory of him acting “goofy” as he danced with his 72 year old grandmother during his boot camp graduation still brings a smile to family faces.

He graduated in 2001 from Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, Maryland, but didn’t know what to do with his life. Brandon worked a few jobs around town before deciding he wanted to join the military to learn a trade and start a career. It turned out that he loved being a soldier and was happy to be doing what he did.

In February, he could have returned home for 2 weeks, but gave his leave to an Army buddy who wanted to return to the United States to get married. Brandon was a great guy with a big heart. He would hold doors open for the elderly or was always doing something for someone. He enjoyed carpentry and fishing and dreamed of becoming a police officer when he got out of the Army.
