Sergeant Christian A. Garcia died April 2, 2011 in Babil province, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his position with indirect fire. He was assigned to the Maintenance Troop, Regimental Support Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, since August 2010. He and his unit were supporting Operation New Dawn.

Christian Garcia f was thirty years old and a resident of San Diego, Arizona. He joined the military in June 1999 as a quartermaster and chemical equipment repairer. Sgt Garcia deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from December 2004 to December 2005 and from November 2007 to January 2009. His awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, two Army Good Conduct Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign stars.

Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbons, NATO medal, and Driver and Mechanic Badge for Mechanics.

He was surrounded by, included in and enjoyed being part of both his and his wife’s family. He was a fun loving person who enjoyed the same delights as a small child. Sitting in beach sand, hanging out with friends and family, enjoying trips, gatherings and get togethers showed his ready smiles to everyone. Survivors include his wife, stepsons, stepdaughter, daughters, parents, brother and sister, grandmother, cousins, aunts and uncles.
