Lance Corporal Christopher Lyons, 24, was killed in the line of duty while serving in Iraq on Thursday, July 28, 2005. He was a member of Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, reserve unit based in Columbus, OH.
He was born Sept. 26, 1980 in Charleston, SC., and was the son of Paul R. and Phyllis R. Humphreys Lyons. He was a 1999 graduate of Shelby High School and he had attended Pioneer Career and Technological Center where he was involved with the Tech Prep Program.
Christopher was a sales representative in the advertising department for the Mansfield News Journal. He was a member of the Heartland Christian Center in Wooster, OH.
He loved to play scrabble and had started a scrabble club in Mansfield. He also enjoyed literature.
On Sept. 19, 2003, he was married to Bethany S. Bull who survives him. Also surviving are his daughter, Ella Gianna Sabine Lyons at home; his mother, Phyllis Lyons of Ontario, OH.; his father and stepmother, Paul and Debbie Lyons of Nampa, ID.; grandmothers Irmil (Bobbie) Humphreys of Willard, OH., Joyce Lyons of FL.; aunts and uncles, Dave and Shirley Humphreys of Mansfield, Becky and David Branham of St. Louisville, Jennifer and Steve Blevins of Shelby, Todd and Tina Humphreys of Nova, Gwen and Terry Gwinner of Willard, James Humphreys of TX., Cathy and Mike Day of KY.; 17 cousins; and four second cousins. He was preceded in death by his two grandfathers
