Corporal Anthony Clay Ward, age 27, entered into the arms of Jesus Saturday, June 13, 2009. Clay was born in Birmingham, Alabama December 16, 1981. Clay is survived by his beloved fiancé Jenny Grace, parents Allan and Debbie Ward, his dearest friend and brother Mark (Jessica) Ward, brother Neal Ward, grandmother Magdeline Eads, grandparents Robert and Delora Ward, and his precious Abi.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather Carlos Eads, and grandparents Anna and Jim Lasseter.
Clay was a United States Marine who could not bear the injustice he saw when 9/11 occurred. He proudly served the 2 Battalion, 11th Marines, 1st Marine Division from Camp Pendelton (Field Artillery Fire Control) in Iraq and was bestowed various honors.
Ultimately his service there contributed to his death and Clay would urge any serviceman or woman reading this to seek help in dealing with the aftermath of the trauma inflicted there. Clay worked alongside his brother Mark at Award Landcare, Inc. as a crew leader since his return from Iraq. Clay was the most diligent worker we will ever see.
Clay was a simple man of character and perseverance. His loyal, compassionate, and loving heart should serve as an example to all of us.
If you would like to celebrate Clay’s life with flowers, the family asks that you send Ever Blooming Blue Hydrangeas and Red Knock-out Roses to be planted at his parents’ home as a reminder of his beautiful life — hydrangeas as blue as his eyes and red roses as true as his heart.
