Strength and courage are two words that sum up Daniel. He was a soldier, friend, and dedicated to his country. May he rest in peace with all those lost in battle. He was the son of Mark and Karen “Kae” McGuire.

Daniel was born in Middleboro, moved to Mashpee as a toddler, and attended Heritage Christian Pre-School and Mashpee public schools, graduating in the class of 2007. A longtime attendee of Christ Chapel in Centerville, he served in Vacation Bible School as an usher and participated in the youth group. He excelled in academics and was a multiple recipient of the Samuel B. Davis Good Manners Award. He earned a letterman’s jacket by excelling on the MCAS exam. He played lacrosse for Mashpee High School and enjoyed participating in the Blue Falcon Theatre Group.

He was best known for his portrayal of Edward P. Dowd in its production of “Harvey.” He sang with the Mashpee High School concert choir. A longtime Boy Scout, he achieved the rank of Life Scout, was a member of the ABAKE-MI-SA-NA-KI Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, and earned his God and Country award. He created the flag retirement boxes in place in municipal buildings in Mashpee. He loved sketching, woodcarving, reading, and writing. Daniel’s dedication to God, family, and country made him a dedicated friend to all who knew him.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his brothers, Samuel, Stephen, and Benjamin, all of Mashpee; brothers-in-heart, SPC Timothy Brainard of Colorado and James Brainard of Middleboro; grandparents, Bob and Hilda Buck of Middleboro, and Julia McGuire and the late William McGuire of Quincy; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
