Hi, my name is Patti Nowaczyk and my son SSG David Nowaczyk was killed in Afghanistan on April 15, 2012. I received your contact information from Eric Herzberg and we would love to have a picture of David, we also would like a digital image. Here are some pictures of David, if they do not work or you can not open this, please let me know and I will send more or try to send them individually.
You requested a description of David
David was born in 1979 and has always loved any sports, baseball, basketball, football, wrestling, he did them all. He was always very energetic and he loved to laugh, make people happy and he loved to be around “fun loving people.” After 9/11 he felt it was his duty to join the service and serve our country. David had just started serving his 3rd deployment when he was killed.
He was very protective of his family and friends, especially the “girls” in his life. His girls he had on a pedestal. He was a family man, very respectable, loved the outdoors and sports. He adored and loved his wife, daughter and step-son. He was a great son, brother, uncle, husband and dad. David wanted to go to PGA golf school. Knew every sports player and stats on them. Loved being outside, a lot of energy and playing with the kids. He was very respected as a leader. Some of his guys have told me that after he passed they still did things exactly as he told them and it saved their lives multiple times. They called him SSG Nova on a daily basis. Still unsure who made up the John Wayne thing, but some of the soldiers in his unit called him “John Wayne or the Duke”
