MORGAN, TX, USA U.S. Army SPC, HHB 4TH BATTALION 42D FIELD ARTILLERY, FORT HOOD, TX 76544 TIKRIT, IRAQ 09/18/2003
Specialist James Wright and two other soldiers were killed on September 18, 2003 during an ambush by small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Tikrit, Iraq. Spc Wright was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.
Twenty-seven year old James, from suburban Cincinnati, Dehli Township, had served two years in the Army after having served four years in the Marines. His wife, Alina, an Army First Cavalry soldier based at Fort Hood in 2003, was pregnant with their first child due in December 2003. SPC Wright was looking forward to being a first time father. Jimmy’s brother was planning to surprise his Jimmy upon his return. He was going to let Jimmy think he couldn’t get off work and then everyone had planned to be there in Texas when he got off the plane. Like many siblings Jimmy and his brother had their times and challenges, but were very closely bonded. Jimmy attended Oak Hills High School, and classmates remembered him as very outgoing and lovable. He was a clown and enjoyed laughing. The minutes were always good when you were around Jimmy.
