A letter James L. Adair wrote to his in-laws from Iraq was read at his funeral.
I want to say a special thank you for raising the most beautiful, smart and perfect wife. I’m proud for her to be my wife and the mother of my child. She completes me and makes me a better person, Adair wrote.
Adair, 26, of Carthage, Texas, was killed by a roadside bomb June 29 in Baghdad. He was assigned to Fort Riley.
Adair’s former Scoutmaster, Robert White, said he remembered a happy young man who was well liked and played football. If something was going on, he was in the middle of it, White said. If he did not start it, he quickly got in on it. He just had a good spirit.
Adair wrote a poem in the sixth grade that offered an insight into the young man. Patriotism should be in our land/It starts off with the lifting of one’s hand/Justice should be in all our courts/Fairness should be for people of all sorts, it said.
On July 15, 2006, Adair married Chelsea Nation. She is expecting their first child in September. He was a real good, polite young man, said American Legion Post No. 353 vice commander Jack Wilson.
