The family of Marine SGT. Jason G. Amores, is planning his funeral service in his hometown of Lehigh Acres, Florida. Jason was killed Thursday, January 20, 2011.
Jason grew up in Lehigh Acres and attended Lehigh Senior High School. He graduated in 1999. During his high school years Jason played saxophone, and was as an active member of the Lehigh Senior High School’s Marching Band. Jason and his brother Jeremiah joined the U.S. Marine Corps on the same day in 2004, and went through basic and advanced training together. Jason deployed several times to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Jason’s brother, Jeremiah, waited at Dover AFB with other family members to receive his brother’s remains. The brothers were very close.
SGT Amores’ father, Curtis Middleton, expressed how upset the family was, but emphasized how proud they were of Jason for his valiant service to his country. Curtis Middleton explained, we have been told that once the plane is parked, the caskets draped with the American flag will be transferred from the plane, and there will be a ceremony for the families and friends who are waiting for their loved one’s remains. This is a most difficult experience for those receiving their fallen heroes. The family is having a rough time, explained Middleton.
SGT Amores leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. Jason is also survived by many family members.
“Our memories will always remain of just how proud of Jason we were of his serving his nation. We are very proud of him,” Middleton concluded.
