Army Corporal Jeremy R. Greene of Springfield, Ohio, died April 28, 2007, at Forward Operating Base Tillman, Afghanistan, due to injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Corporal Greene was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. He was twenty-four years old.
Jeremy was a graduate of Springfield Shawnee High School. He Enlisted in the Army on February 2004. He completed his military training at Fort Benning, GA. He deployed to Afghanistan in Feb 2006. Jeremy was active in high school. He participated in the art club, Muse Machine and Students Against Drunk Driving
The memories of Jeremy will be forever with his family, friends, and acquaintances. His smile was infectious to all who saw it and knew him. While he was definitely a patriotic soul, he never aspired to be a hero. Yet to us all, he was a hero who will be remembered. The sun will shine a little dimmer in many lives without him. Sunshine and full military honors accompanied the posthumous award of the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service as several hundred people said farewell to Jeremy.
