Sidewalks in north Cobb and Fulton counties were lined Wednesday morning with people paying respects to a Kennesaw soldier killed last month in Afghanistan. Many people held American flags. Hundreds of friends, veterans, soldiers and people who never met Army First Lieutenant Jonathan P. Walsh lined Main Street in Kennesaw to pay their respects. Kennesaw, Georgia was First Lieutenant Walsh’s hometown.
Walsh graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2008 and worked in the financial services industry before enlisting in the Army in March 2010. First Lieutenant Walsh leaves behind his wife, Debbra, a son, Austin, and his parents, Paul and Carolyn Walsh. Also surviving are his sister Lori and brother Christopher.
Susan Catlin of Kennesaw, 59, stopped at the city’s veterans memorial before walking over to honor First Lieutenant Walsh. She said she comes from a military family dating back to the Revolutionary War. “How courageous of these soldiers, what a sacrifice,” she said. “What they do shouldn’t be taken for granted.”
This entry from First Lieutenant Walsh’s Legacy guest book pays tribute to this soldier:

We are so very sorry to hear of the loss of J.P.. He was a young man that stood out with his kindness and his smile. We have many happy memories of him during the baseball years at North Cobb, as well as his valued friendship with Daniel. Thank you J.P. for your service, you will never be forgotten. To the Walsh family, Please know that your entire family is in our prayers and thoughts today and always.
