SGT Jose Ruben Martinez Jr. passed away Saturday January 19, 2008 at the age of 30. He was born in Taft, Texas on December 13, 1977. He was a graduate of Sinton High School, Sinton, Texas. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 2000.

SGT Martinez served in Korea, Kosovo, and Iraq. During his first deployment he was a Bradley Tank driver and gunner. During his second overseas tour he was a gunner on a Black Hawk.

He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct, Army Achievement, Iraqi Campaign, Global War on Terrorism Service, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, Air, National Defense, and Korean Defense Service medals. Also awarded to SGT Martinez were the Ribbons of Overseas, Army Service, and the NCO Primary Development and Leadership. SGT Martinez was also awarded Infantryman and the Air Assault Badges for his service to our country.

SGT Martinez is survived by his loving wife Narena (Ivy) of Killeen Texas, two sons Brandon Scott Martinez of Corpus Christi, Texas. and Alec Kaleb Martinez of Killeen, Texas. His mother Rose (Mike) Wertanen of Corpus Christi, Texas, his father Jose Ruben Martinez, Sr. of Sinton, Texas, his sister Veronica M. Martinez of Corpus Christi, Texas, numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins from Texas, Ohio, and Indiana. He is buried at Seaside Memorial Park, Corpus Christi, Texas in the Field of Valor.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the U.S. Army and their family and friends for their prayers, love and support.

To our beloved husband/father/son/brother, who has touched many lives and will be dearly missed, may God be with you always. Love, your wife, sons, father, mother/stepfather, sister and family.
