Adam McSween of Valdosta GA was remembered as a blond-haired, blue-eyed boy who was “into everything,” and loved his grandmother’s apple pie. It didn’t surprise his family that he would undertake one of the war’s most dangerous jobs.


He graduated from Georgia Christian High School then attended York Christian College on a track scholarship. Adam joined the Navy and graduating “A” School and training at the Naval Special Warfare Center, Adam served onboard USS Mount Vernon (LSD-39) where he earned the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist pin.


Adam traveled to Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, Panama City, FL to begin his training as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Diver. He quickly earned the coveted Basic Explosive Ordnance Disposal pin. Adam accepted orders to EOD Mobile Unit Eleven at Whidbey Island, Washington arriving after completing Tactical Training in San Diego CA.


During his service, Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Joseph Adam McSween was awarded the Army Commendation Medal,


Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, 2nd award, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment ribbon, 3rd award, Expert Marksmanship Rifle Medal, Expert Marksmanship Pistol Medal.
