Joseph Bradley Milledge was born on February 3, 1984 in Council Bluffs, IA. He Graduated from High School in Glenwood in 2002. After high school, Joseph moved to Texas for a short time, joining the Army there in 2004. He married a woman from Washington State shortly after that.
He was interested in martial arts. His relatives describe him as a compassionate man … and also an avid reader of religion and philosophy who used to say, “Don’t let schooling get in the way of education.”
Joey return to Glenwood to see his young son baptized in nearby Council Bluffs. He also tried to return to Glenwood as often as he could to maintain ties with his seven brothers and sisters … and nine nieces and nephews.
His family said he was not in Iraq to fight a war, but to help the defenseless, especially the children. He would have wanted people to know that soldiers aren’t just fighting over there, they bring the kids water, play football, and get involved with the schools. He cared about the humanitarian effect.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 3 years, Amanda; son, Joseph Bradley Ryan Milledge, Jr.; mother, Carla Milledge; father, Jack Milledge; brothers, Eric & Nathan Milledge; sisters, Mary Cooper & Jaclyn Dunkirk and 11 nieces & nephews
He served in the Army for 3½ years earning awards, Arcom-1, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, ADR, CIF, DRV/MEC.
