SPC Pearce was born November 23, 1984, in Johnson, Kansas. He graduated with the Guymon High School Class of 2003, where he played on the Guymon Tiger baseball team.

In a letter SPC Pearce wrote to the public on September 11, 2005, Josh said, “I do not want to die, but if that’s what I was put on this earth to do, then everyone should know that I went for a cause that in my heart was worth (dying) for.”

Josh enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill and deployed to Iraq August 26, 2005 from Fort Wainright, Alaska. He was a vehicle commander and forward observer.. His brother, Jeremy is also serving in Iraq as a Sergeant in a tank unit. SPC Joshua Michael Pearce, 21, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 while serving his country.

According to his mother, Becky Hilliard, “He always wanted to be a soldier… This is what he wanted to do.”
