Keith E Lloyd

MILWAUKEE, WI, USA U.S. Army PFC, HHT, 1ST SQUADRON, 3D ARMORED CALVARY REGIMENT, FORT HOOD, TX TAL AFAR, IRAQ 01/12/2008

Private First Class Keith E.Lloyd of Milwaukee, Wisconsin was a member of the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas. He died on Saturday, January 12, 2008 in Tal Afar, Iraq, of wounds suffered when the vehicle he was in struck a roadside bomb. He was 26.

As a boy, Keith Lloyd marveled at the physical prowess of professional wrestlers, could lose himself in a Nintendo game and reveled in the hours he spent playing outside his home on Milwaukee’s south side. While at Lincoln Avenue school, he played volleyball and enjoyed Nintendo video games featuring the Super Mario Brothers and stars of the World Wrestling Federation. He attended Lincoln Avenue Elementary School before his family moved to Oak Creek and then South Milwaukee.

As a teen he was not crazy about high school, but he never shirked the responsibility. Keith graduated from South Milwaukee in 2000. He also supported the sports program as a volleyball player. After graduation, he worked at a number of retail sites, including Farm & Fleet and Pick ‘n Save stores. He also took courses at Milwaukee Area Technical College in Oak Creek and ITT Technical Institute in Milwaukee.

Keith wasn’t quite sure what career path to take. He was still trying to figure out what he wanted to do. His brother Thomas Lloyd joined the Army and spent a year in Iraq before Keith enlisted in February 2007. While friends and family were concerned for both Thomas and Keith, they knew that their military choices were what they wanted to do, and the family supported them.

In a letter Keith’s family found after his death, Keith had asked his girlfriend’s parents for permission to marry their daughter – and their e-mail response had granted Keith their blessings.
