Marine Staff Sergeant Kenneth Blake Pospisil began his life in Anoka, Minnesota. He was known as Blake. He attended Anoka High School before joining the Army and getting his GED during Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. A year later he joined the Marines.
Blake was an explosive expert and was killed when he was on his way to disarm a bomb in Ramadi, Iraq on December 14, 2005 Blake was 35 years old and assigned to the 8th Engineer Support Battalion, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He spent much of his military career in Honolulu. Blake’s mother, Jeanne Pospisil and her husband, Ken, visited their only son at Camp Lejeune in September before their son deployed to Iraq. It was Blake’s first deployment.
The family talked about how their son stated he was not going to Iraq to fight, but to save lives.
The family also stated he was very excited to go there to put his extensive military training to use. The family stated their son loved the Marine Corps and felt he belonged in Iraq.
