FARMINGTON, NM, USA U.S. Army SSG, COMPANY D, 2D BATTALION, 506TH INFANTRY, 4 BCT, FORT CAMPBELL, KY SABERI DISTRICT KHOWST, AFGHANISTAN 05/07/2008
Staff Sergeant Kevin Casey Roberts’s mission was to serve his country, which he did proudly for six and a half years as a soldier with the 101st Airborne Division. The events of September 11, 2001 influenced SSG Roberts’s determination to defend the United States. His love of duty and love of country were undeniable. SSG Roberts was all military, he earned the respect of officers, fellow NCOs and soldiers alike. He was an incredibly gentle man, devoted to the brightest lights in his life, his wife Donnice, daughter Caehlen and son Keeghan. Roberts was an outstanding human being who respected and cherished life and lived it completely.
Casey was born May 27, 1982 in Farmington, NM. He stood out as a violinist in the high school orchestra. His daughter Caehlen will follow her Dad’s musical pursuits and play his violin in a special children’s orchestra in Texas. After graduating from Farmington High School in 2000 he joined the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department and worked as a first responder until enlisting in the United States Army in 2001.
SSG Roberts strove to complete numerous goals during his military career. Recently he applied for the Warrant Office program and was accepted into the program just about the time of his passing. As Casey put it, “Flying has been a dream of mine since I was a little boy. My father took me along in his ultra light aircraft and told me stories about flying and even let me pilot. I grew to love flying and was fascinated by it.”
The Creed of The Infantry most aptly describes this special human being, his beliefs and extraordinary courage. He is truly a hero.
