Saying goodbye to Senior Ensign Łukasz Sroczyński, September 8, 2013

Today was the funeral of the Senior Ensign Łukasz Sroczyński, who died as a result of wounds suffered in Afghanistan. The Holy Mass was celebrated in the Church of Divine Mercy in Stargard Szczeciński. Łukasz Sroczyński left his wife and daughter. He was 32 years old.

Senior Ensign Sroczyński, a soldier of the 12th Mechanized Brigade, died August 3, 2013 after months of fighting for his life. Despite the doctors’ efforts, he never regained consciousness. Łukasz Sroczyński was wounded on December 22, 2012 in the southwestern part of the Ghazni province, where the Polish military contingent is responsible for security.

By the decision of the Minister of National Defense, Senior Corporal Łukasz Sroczyński was promoted to the rank of Senior Ensign. In turn, President Bronisław Komorowski awarded him with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Military Cross for outstanding combat deeds combined with exceptional generosity and courage.

During the treatment of Łukasz Sroczyński for several months, colleagues from the unit organized financial assistance for his family several times. A motorcycle trip to Georgia took place in June. The money collected at that time was intended for holidays for the soldier’s daughter.

This is the forty-first Pole who died in Afghanistan or died as a result of wounds suffered there since Poland became involved in the ISAF operation in 2007.
