Michael C Balsley

Michael Christopher Balsley was born on June 30, 1983 to James and Beverly Balsley. He grew up in Hayward, California and attended Mt. Eden High School. Upon his graduation from high school, Michael enlisted into the United States Army. He attended Basic Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Michael’s Military Occupation Specialty was 19D.

Michael’s first duty station was Korea, where he served a one year overseas tour. Upon completion of this tour, Michael was assigned to 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, at Fort Carson, Colorado. Michael deployed with this unit in October 2006 in Operation Iraqi Freedom in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Specialist Balsley was on night time patrol, east of Bagdad. His Humvee hit some sort of explosive device.

He was killed in action on January 25, 2007.
