Michael J. Knapp

OVERLAND PARK, KS, U.S.A. U.S. ARMY SGT, BTRY B, 1ST BN, 377TH FIELD ARTY REG, 17TH FIRES BDE, JBLM, WA 05/18/2012, ASADABAD, AFGHANISTAN

SGT Michael J. Knapp was an amazing father, husband and son who loved his family and God. He was a great leader and teacher for his fellow soldiers.

Michael and his wife Abby were married in October 2008 and settled in Fort Lewis, WA in March 2010 once Michael became Active Duty Army. Their child, a daughter, was born August 1, 2011.

She was 9 weeks early weighing just 3lbs 6oz –she was their miracle baby. Three months after his daughter’s birth, Mike deployed to Asadabad, Afghanistan November 14, 2011. On deployment Mike watched with great joy and a heart full of love his daughter grow up on Skype. On May 18, 2012 he was killed in action.

“Mike was a soldier through and through and you just couldn’t ask for a guy that’s more loyal to our country and to my daughter, and then to my granddaughter,” according to SGT Knapp’s father-in-law, Tom Brassfield

Michael is a man of God who will be missed dearly. We are keeping peace in knowing that he is with our Lord and Savior today.
