AFGHANISTAN 03/13/2006

Lance Corporal Nicholas R. Anderson easily made friends and enjoyed the world’s challenges. Even as a youngster he enjoyed being outdoors with his dad and uncles hunting and fishing; and liked to work out and lift weights. He was mechanically inclined and a perfectionist who liked to fix things. He loved motorcycles and enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson FatBoy with his friends. He enjoyed family and had a special bond with his nephew, Ethan and niece, Ella.

Nick was a graduate of Sauk Prairie High School, class of 2003. He worked during high school and after graduation he worked for Monona Fire and Sprinkler. He enlisted in the National Guard in 2002 when he was 18, but an injured shoulder forced him to drop out. He then enlisted in the Marines in January 2005 and began a six-month tour of Afghanistan. He had been in Afghanistan about two months with the 3rd Marines Weapons Platoon.

Nick was a member of the Lachmunc-Cramer V.F.W. post 7693 and Sprinkler Fitters, Local Union 669. Nick was part of B Company, 1st Battalion,3d Marine Regiment. III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He was twenty-one when he was killed on March 13, 2006 in a non-hostile vehicle accident in Afghanistan.

Nick’s family supported him, but feared two words: “Afghanistan and Iraq.”
