SSG Haney of Fountain, CO hailed originally from Orlando, FL. In high school in 1999 he met the love of his life, Katie, a classmate and cheerleader.. She was so smitten by his charm and good looks that she did a flip.

Randy joined the Army in April of 2002 finding a lack of decent paying jobs, he hoped the military could provide stability in his life. The 9-11 terrorist attacks influenced his decision too, he wanted to make a difference in a changing world.

He and Katie married in November of 2002. Their first duty station was at Fort Richardson, AK. He deployed to Afghanistan for a year from March 2005. Next he transferred to Fort Carson, CO and was deployed to Iraq from September 2007 for a year. He and Katie bought a home in Fountain, Colorado, and started their family. On May 29, 2009, SSG Haney deployed again to Afghanistan. He was killed four moths later on September 6 in Nangarhar, Afghanistan.

Randy was going to retire from the military in 2010 and start his own martial arts studio, he was wanted to be with his family. He was so sure he would be coming home, he never could say “goodbye” on the phone calls he had with Katie. SSG Haney is lovingly remembered by his wife, Katie ; his daughter, and a son, his mother, Amanda Macey; brother Thomas, other family members and friends.
