The Department of Defense announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lance Corporal Richard Z. James, 20, of Seaford, Del., died May 13, while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Anbar province, Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune.

A 2004 graduate of Seaford Christian Academy, Lance Corporal Richard Zachary James was known for his enthusiasm for life, his excellence in sports, and for enjoying a good practical joke. As a young boy, Rick dreamed of being a marine. After graduating from high school, he enlisted and served bravely in Iraq until May 13, 2006 when he was killed in action.

From Richard’s online guest book:

Dear family of Ricky, my son was with him on the ambush when he passed away. My son says he was one of the very best marines, and he misses him. He misses his humor and the way he taped stuffed animals to his weapon. He truly believes he is helping them even now and guarding them from above. My son will love and respect and honor his name and memory forever. Our love pours out to you in prayer, we are forever grateful to your son and to you for bringing him into this world to help us be free. God bless you.”
