Royal Navy Engineer Ruairidh James MacKay died tragically as a result of an accident, at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Monday, September 12, 2016, he was aged 18 years. A cherished and much loved son of Robbie and Amanda, loving brother to Kirsty and Megan and a very dear grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to many.

The teenager was enjoying leave at his home in Macduff, Banffshire. He had been due to be at home for three weeks before his first deployment on a Navy ship.

Ruairidh MacKay fell off a six-foot wall during a night out in Banff, Aberdeenshire, north east Scotland. He was based at HMS Sultan in Gosport, UK on the southeast coast. Ruairidh had recently completed the second phase of his training.

Ruairidh’s twin sister, Megan, paid a heart-warming tribute to her brother:

‘Our universe grants every soul a twin – a reflection of themselves – the kindred spirit.

‘And no matter where they are or how far away they are from each other, even if they are in different dimensions, they will always find one another.

‘Rest in Peace Ruairidh, I will be with you again one day my special twin.’

One of many naval colleagues who payed tribute, Hayley Smith, wrote: “Amazing boy taken too soon. The heavens have been blessed with another angel.”
