POLISH MILITARY PERSONNEL IN THE INTERNATIONAL STABILIZATION FORCES IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRAQ


Captain Sławomir Gabriel Stróżak – platoon commander, 18th Bielsko Airborne-Assault Battalion – was killed on August 5, 2004.


CPT Stróżak served in the composition of the II shift – he performed mandated tasks outside the base during partol together with the sub-unit. During the implementation of the combat task, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded on the patrol route. His injuries as a result of the explosion caused his death.


Buried at the Municipal Cemetery of the Saint. Franciszka of Assisi, Bielsko-Biała-Wapienica, ul. At Tor 1.


CPT Stróżak was posthumously decorated by the President of the Republic of Poland with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta / PPRP – reg. 86/2004 – December 5, 2004.


He was honored with a posthumous entry in the Book of Honor of the Polish Army / Decision No. 273 / Pers. Minister of National Defense on July 16, 2004.


He was posthumously appointed military Captain. Decision No. 230 / MON / PSSS of the Minister of National Defense of August 12, 2004. The 2nd assault company of the 18th Bielsko Airborne-Assault Battalion of the 6th Assault Brigade was named after CPT Sławomir Gabriel Stróżak.
