Stephen L. Morris

LAKE JACKSON,TX, U.S.A. U.S. MARINE CORPS LCPL, G CO,2DBN,3DMAR,(RCT-2,IIMEF FWD),3DMAR, KANEOHE,HI 12/24/2006, HAQLANIYAH, IRAQ

LCPL Morris graduated from Brazoswood High School in 2004. He joined the Marines after graduation and arrived in Hawai’i November 2004 for his first assignment. Stephen Lloyd was a religious man who also loved to surf.

He loved to share his faith with his fellow Marines in Iraq. Stephen was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson where you could often find him if he wasn’t surfing. Family and friends called him a “soldier of God.” He was 21.

His father, Lloyd Morris, a retired prison chaplain, told the crowd at First Baptist Church his son’s last letter home asked for prayers for everybody fighting in Iraq. Stephen Morris grew up with a deep spirituality — as well as a love for the outdoors, his father added.

LCPL Morris’s cell phone message said if he didn’t answer he would be in church, or surfing. He remained upbeat about his efforts in Iraq. The young Marine’s greatest passion in life was his religion. He attended a Baptist church in Texas and the Word of Life Christian Center in Honolulu.

“He loved the Lord,” added Lloyd Morris. “He was very committed to the Lord and His will and he led a number of Marines to the Lord in Iraq.”
