Marine Lance Corporal Terry C. Wright died on September 21, 2011 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. LCPL Wright’s awards include the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the NATO Medal for Afghanistan.

Terry Wright was twenty-one years old. Born in Coshocton, he was also from Carrollton and Scio, Ohio. He graduated in 2008 from Carrollton High School and Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia. He studied law enforcement and was in the school’s ROTC program. In July 2008, he joined the Marine Corps. He graduated from boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina on October 3, 2008 and was promoted to lance corporal in April 2009.

He deployed to Afghanistan in December 2009 for his first tour of duty. During this deployment, he was injured when a bomb exploded beside him and had a grade 1 concussion. His full battle dress avoided further injury. He left for his second tour of duty in Afghanistan July 9, 2011.

Terry was a real likable kid and all his teachers appreciated having him in class. His friends could always count on him to be there for them. He had a goal and vision that he wanted to serve his country. He was proud to be a Marine serving his country in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

His older brother Adam is also serving his country as a Marine Corporal. He had last been home in August 2010, for his grandmother’s funeral.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two brothers, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.
