Timothy J. Poole Jr.

BOWLING GREEN, KY, U.S.A.

U.S. MARINE CORPS

LCPL, B CO, 1ST BN, 3RD MAR REG, (RCT-7 FWD), 3RD MAR DIV, KANEOHE BAY, HI

01/24/2010, HELMAND PROVINCE, AFGHANISTAN

LCPL Timothy James Poole, Jr., 22, of Bowling Green, KY was killed by a roadside bomb while on patrol on January 24, 2010 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

LCPL Poole enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 2007 and reported to Kaneohe Bay in December 2007. He was deployed to Iraq in 2008 and 2009, returning to Kaneohe in March.

When Timothy “Bubba” Poole was 4 years old, he stared up at a Marine at a Toys for Tots event. The rigid man in uniform broke attention, picked up the little boy, held him for a few minutes and whispered.

That night, as Timothy Poole Sr. was putting his son to bed, “Little Bubba” told his father:

“I want to grow up to be a Marine.” Timothy Poole Sr. still doesn’t know what that Marine told his son, but he’s never forgotten those moments. And that 4-year-old kept his word, becoming a Marine once he was old enough.

LCPL Poole was assigned to Camp Lejeune, NC. He had graduated from Warren East High School in Bowling Green in 2007.

“Bubba” is remembered by his family and others as a quiet, polite young man who loved to skateboard.

“He had the heart of a Marine and could run like the wind,” said SGT Joel Extine, who was LCPL Poole’s recruiter.

LCPL Poole is survived by his mother, Tina Martin; a brother, Cecil; and three sisters, Elizabeth, Katrina and Jessica.
