Curtis Donald Feistner was born on November 7, 1967. Curt grew up in Birchwood Village. Son of Arlene and Donald, he was the youngest of three boys. He attended White Bear Lake Schools, graduating from White Bear High School in 1986 during which time he participated in numerous church and school activities.
Curt was a guy who would do anything for anyone in need. He could be trusted with anything and added humor at times of stress when it was needed most. As a talented athlete and outdoorsman, Curt especially enjoyed cross-country skiing and competed in the Hawaii Iron Man Triathlon.
Upon graduating from the United States Military Academy–West Point in 1990, Curt served as an Army aviator in a variety of leadership positions for numerous worldwide operations. Curt was a proud member of the Special Operations Air Regiment-Task Force 160th, known as the “Night Stalkers.” Most recently, Curt commanded Echo Company of the 160th stationed in South Korea.
Curt lived life to the fullest. He was a great friend and role model to all who knew him. He was the utmost professional–a true expert totally dedicated to his country, his unit, his soldiers, and the mission. He trained hard and ran ironman competitions, triathlons, and marathons. He was as tough as any soldier you could find.
Curt was a credit to his country and an inspiration to all around him. Army Maj. Curtis D. Feistner, 34, died February 21, 2002, in an MH-47 Chinook helicopter crash off the coast of the Philippines along with nine other dedicated American heroes, while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom. He was assigned to E Co, 1, and was living in White Bear Lake, Minn.
