Lance Corporal Davis was determined to be a Marine. Davis was fighting to protect fellow Marines when he was killed by an enemy combatant. His death leaves friends and family in his Iowa town saddened and tearful missing this fine young person “He said he wasn’t afraid to die. He wasn’t afraid to die he was just ready to go,” according to Davis’ friend Seth Coleman.

In celebrating Davis’ life and remembering their fair wells as Davis deployed, no one realized that this final good bye would come so quickly. This was a kind, custodial individual who felt an obligation to care for family, friends and community.  In the face of battle, he fought to protect his brothers in arms.

Joshua was a 2009 Perry High School graduate where he played football and wrestled. “He was a team guy. He maybe wasn’t the star player on the football team. He was a lineman. He was in the trenches doing the dirty work,” says Gary Czerniakowski, Perry High School Assistant Principal.

Joshua was not bothered doing the harder, unpleasant tasks in life as was evident in his choice to serve in the Marine Corps knowing that he was going to war. That’s one reason he joined the Marines. And as a patriotic person he took great pride in his country, his community and his family.

“The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.”
Thucydides
