AL ASAD, IRAQ 02/01/2007

Born in Atlanta on November 27, 1984, Corporal Richard O Quill III lived in Dunwoody and Roswell, attending Dunwoody High School, and graduating from Roswell High School. He was active in the youth group at Calvary Assembly of God in Dunwoody. A kind-hearted and loyal friend, Richard was quick to smile and slow to anger. He was active and played football, basketball and baseball in high school.

After graduating in 2003, he enlisted in the Marines and was assigned to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine division based in Camp Pendleton, CA. He was completing his second tour in Iraq with the 15 MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) on behalf of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Prior to this tour he had been deployed to Okinawa, Japan. He was on his second tour of Iraq. On February 1, 2007 Richard died from a non-hostile cause in Al Anbar province, Iraq.

A former teacher stated “there was never a sweeter, kinder, more gentle, or more wonderful boy than the Richy I knew with the sparkling eyes. The two things I remember most are how he used to tell me how much he hated math, but how hard he persevered and worked at it without quitting. I also loved the way he played sports with amazing ease and style. It was like he was born knowing how to be an athlete intuitively. He was amazing and unforgettable to watch.”

He was loved and will be missed by many, many people whose lives he touched. He is survived by his father, Richard O. Quill Jr. and stepmother Mary.

Richard’s portrait is also located on Poster 1
