1LT Todd William Weaver: brilliant scholar, world traveler, exceptional leader, son, husband father, friend, HERO.
Jeanne Nell Harris Weaver described her son as: “ A very, very special man. He was an amazing, amazing young man.” “One of the best people I’ve ever served with,” added Army CPT Jeff Harasimowitz.
“The best,” said his wife, Emma Louise Elizabeth Weaver. “Todd was good at everything. (But) He was never boastful, never proud.”
“Clearly, he was the best of the best,” an ROTC official from William and Mary wrote in a campus news publication.
1LT Weaver was born into a Foreign Service family and lived much of his early life overseas. Todd had traveled to five different continents with his parents as a child. Todd was a senior at Bruton on September 11, 2001. “I remember the look on his face,” said his mother. “It changed him.” He told his parents that day that as soon as he could serve his country, he would do it. He joined the National Guard and deployed to Iraq.
The William and Mary news department wrote about 1LT Weaver’s tour in Iraq that began in February 2004. Among Todd’s favorite memories, it said, were of children running up to convoys and giving the thumbs-up sign. “I have a picture of this little Iraqi kid wearing my uniform top,” 1LT Weaver was quoted. “He is saluting. That just shows that there was a connection.”
“He found true love,”with Emma Louise Elizabeth Weaver and his daughter Kiley Jeanne Weaver explained “It is amazing that anyone could live a full life in 26 years. But that’s what Todd did.”
Todd’s final deployment was to Afghanistan. 1LT Weaver became an infantry officer in the 101st Airborne. In Afghanistan the night of September 9, 2010, 1LT Weaver was the only casualty when an improvised explosive device detonated. Todd’s death prevented others from being killed.
“It is not the length of life, but the depth of life,” his father stated, quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson as he reflected on his son’s accomplishments.
