Sergeant Jimmy “Jay” M. Horn Jr., died June 18, 2006, at University of California Medical Center in Orange, California. Sergeant Horn, 25, was born in Brookhaven on Sept. 22, 1980. He graduated from Denham Springs High School in 1998. At the age of 17, he joined the Marine Corps. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. A veteran of one tour of duty in Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and two tours of duty in Iraq, Horn also served tours in Japan, Guam, the Philippine Islands, Thailand and South Korea.

A military service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 30, at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, Calif. He was recognized with full Military Honors. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Martha Gaye Miller, and his great-grandmother, Nora Mae Welter Myers.

He is survived by his wife, Megan Horn of Ladera Ranch, Calif.; his mother and stepfather, Gina and Eddie Pettis of Vicksburg; his father and stepmother, Jimmy and Misse Horn of Houston, Texas; his sisters, Kelli Green and Jessica Pettis, both of Vicksburg, and Kortney Horn of Mamou, La.; his brother; Eddie Pettis, of Lafayette, Ind.; his nephew, Brayden Green; his nieces; Reese Green and Elizabeth Curry; his grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Miller, of Wesson, and Margaret Collins, Virgie Nevels, William Horn all of Vicksburg, and Daniel Hoffpauir of Mamou; his lifelong friend Brad Tonquis, of Denham Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
