SEBASTOPOL, CA, USA U.S. Army SFC, A CO, 579TH EN BN (13TH CORPS SUPPORT COMMAND), PETALUMA, CA 98433 BALAD, IRAQ 11/10/2004
Since he was a little boy, Michael wanted to follow his father into the military.
Michael Ottolini spent more than half his life in the California National Guard, training for whatever task came his way.
Mike believed in what he was doing. Right or wrong he backed the American flag and obeyed his commander’s orders. He took great satisfaction in doing whatever the Guard asked of him – whenever the Guard called, he was the first one to stand at attention.
Sergeant First Class Ottolini worked in the Guard as a combat engineer in the Headquarters and Headquarters Company,
579th Engineer Battalion, Santa Rosa. He served with the 579th Engineer Battalion during his entire military career. SFC Ottolini was an exemplary soldier who epitomized professionalism, dedication, and devotion to family. His unit pride was evident to all, and he is remembered for bringing his entire family (immediate and extended) to Battalion social events.
He was an extremely personable individual and was well liked by his fellow soldiers. Ottolini was promoted to SFC from Staff Sergeant posthumously.
