CLOVIS, CA, USA U.S. Army SGT, COMPANY A, 2D BATTALION, 14TH INFANTRY, FORT DRUM, NY BAGHDAD, IRAQ 05/17/2007
Army Sergeant Steven Parker was from Clovis, California. He has three brothers and a sister. Steven loved music and playing the guitar. His friends and family knew he was easy going, with a great sense of humor and a carefree nature, but Steven balanced this easy-going attitude with a seriousness about his important responsibilities and obligations.
Steven was a 2002 high school graduate. Steven joined the military during his senior year of high school, just after the 9-11 terrorist attacks. He figured it would be a good way to pay for college, and liked the idea of serving and protecting his country. Steven was incredibly self-sufficient.
His parents noted that he was incredibly excited about joining the military. Steven was remembered as kindhearted and sensitive-but knew he had a tough job to do and did it with honor and determination. His fellow soldiers regarding him highly and praised his efforts. They couldn’t say enough good things about Steven’s work and attitude-he was a true asset to any team.
Steven stoically returned to Iraq after being “stop-lossed” into a third tour. His character remained strong, despite his desire to return home to attend college and marry his fiancé, Steven proudly continued to serve his country and perform his duties.
Sergeant Parker was awarded the Purple Heart among other awards and decorations, including the Army Good Conduct Medal. He rests beside his beloved and cherished father-who preceded him in death.
Steven was a son, colleague, friend, and brother that any person would admire, enjoy, and love.
