U.S. Navy

Certified EOD Scuba Diver

8/29/2010, Pensacola, US

Thank you so much for reconsidering Matthew. Matthew gave the Navy 150%, and he was there for so many. Matthew (Matty) Briscoe passed away on August 29, 2010. He was an active member of the United States Navy, and was working towards his goal of being an EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) tech. He had graduated from the Center of Explosive Ordinance Disposal and Diving School where he earned his “dive bubble”, and was certified as an EOD Scuba Diver. Matty was a great son, and a great friend to many. He always had a smile on his face. After he passed away we received numerous letters/notes from his friends and classmates that I have quoted below:

“Matty was the kind of guy that would inspire the entire class even while the instructors were doing their worst to us. His happy-go-lucky attitude made the difference for us. We would go from being destroyed to instantly having a smile on our face by his contagiously motivating attitude.I thought he was hilarious and he truly was the spirit of the entire class.

He had so much heart and so much dedication. It was obvious and it inspired us all. It inspired us to learn a lesson from him and to keep that smile on our faces.”

“He’s one of a kind, we tell stories of Matt all the time. He was the most charismatic guy in the class and made showing up everyday something to look forward to. “

“Briscoe had no problem making us laugh”

“Your son was a great man, he would always come to my room and just make me laugh no matter what mood I was in. He always made me smile”
