Ryan P. Jayne, age 22, died on November 3, 2012 while serving his country in the Paktiya Province in Afghanistan.

Ryan was born on May 17, 1990 in Elmira, NY, the son of Paul E. Jayne and Kent and Sherry Skeens. Before moving to the Corning area, he attended the Troy Area School District in PA. A 2008 graduate of Corning East High School, he was the recipient of the Judi McCort Memorial Scholarship for exemplifying courage, hard work, responsibility and dependability. He attended Corning Community College before joining the United States Armed Forces on September 1, 2010, with an MOS of 12 Bravo Combat Engineer, specializing in route clearance.

Ryan first and foremost had a love of family. He wanted to be a part of every family event. He was always the biggest fan of any of his brothers. No matter what sport was being played, he found himself a front row seat and cheered louder and prouder than anyone else. He was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and couldn’t wait for the start of each season. His pride and joy was the Monte Carlo SS that he was restoring. He took great pride in each and every detail. Ryan loved to laugh, loved to make others smile, and could light up a room with his own smile.

Ryan is survived by his father, Paul E. Jayne of Mansfield, PA; his mother and step-father, Sherry and Kent Skeens of Corning, NY; six siblings, Adam Jayne of Canisteo, NY, Emily Skeens of Washington, GA, Jacob Skeens of Corning, NY, Trent Skeens of Corning, NY, Ayzia Jayne of New Albany, PA, and Garrett Skeens of Corning, NY; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Letitia Pine of Waverly, NY, Roger and Sheila Skeens of Burnsville, Mississippi; paternal grandfather, Paul L. Jayne of Monroeton, PA; also several aunts, uncles and cousins. Ryan was predeceased by his paternal grandmother, Beverly Jayne.

Ryan’s portrait is also on Poster 15
